2018 Calendar of Events:
July will be a busy month for me speaking on "How To Live: What The Rule of St. Benedict Teaches Us About Happiness, Meaning and Community."
I am very honored to be the keynote speaker at the annual Monastic Institute, this year held July 12-15 at Mount St. Scholastica Monastery in Atchison, KS.
My theme is "Being Truly Alive" I'll be giving four reflections, speaking on such topics as "Yearning for Life: On Waking Up," "Seeking The True Self: Facing Our Faults, Finding Forgiveness" and "Linking Arms: A 21rst Century Vision of Why Community Matters." There is currently a waiting list for guest rooms at the monastery during the Institute, but it is not too late to register to hear the talks at the conference.
After the Monastic Institute finishes, I'll head to St. Benedict Monastery in Minnesota July 19-22, for the conference of the American Benedictine Academy.
The ABA works to pass on Benedictine monastic values and traditions. The theme of thus year's conference is "Artisans of the Monastery." We'll be celebrating the contributions of monastic painters, poets, photographers, musicians and composers.
I'll be moderating a discussion with best-selling spirituality author Kathleen Norris on Benedictine values and the artistic process on the morning of July 20, and reading one of my poems at a musical program that evening in the Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Benedict Monastery.
